Mobile Cold Storage Chiller

The mobile cold storage chiller is a cold-room and a shopfront in one unit. Behind the glass display doors, drinks, dairy, meat, produce and frozen treats are held at chilled temperature and lit for sale; in front of them, a lift-up awning turns the side of the trailer into a shaded, branded stall that customers can browse and buy from without asking you to open a box.

This is the unit that solves a problem every trader hits in a South African summer: stock that has to be sold cold, and customers who will not buy it if they cannot see it. Instead of packing a chest freezer with ice and pulling product out by hand, you display it at eye level behind glass on shelving, at the temperature the product needs, with LED lighting that makes it look as good at 8pm as it did at lunchtime.

The body is a fully insulated cold compartment built on a welded steel chassis, panelled in insulated composite sheets with sealed joints so the cold stays in and the heat stays out. The display side is fitted with glass doors on a shelving run, the interior is lit by low-draw 12 V LED strip lighting, and the refrigeration set is sized to the compartment and specified for the temperature band you need - typically 0 to 8 degrees Celsius for chilled trading, with a freezer specification available for frozen lines.

The lift-up awning is a gas-strut panel that opens out over the display side to shade both the stock and the customers, cut glare off the glass and give you a surface to hang branding, price lists and a card-machine sign. Underneath, the trailer carries shelving and storage for crates, packaging and till equipment.

Running gear is a braked tandem axle on leaf springs with 14 inch light-truck tyres, sized for a loaded display unit. Power is 220 V shore power as standard, which suits pitches with a supply, and the trailer can be specified with a battery bank and inverter or a generator bay for sites without power.

Typical buyers are township and roadside traders selling cold drinks and frozen snacks, butcheries and delis taking stock to farmers markets, breweries and dairies running pop-up sales, and event vendors who need to keep product cold and visible at the same time.
